Tax break bills under consideration in the legislative session total more than $706 million for the next fiscal year.  The new total reflects the fiscal impact of bills by the legislature’s Office of Economic and Demographic Research.

The tax-cut bills raise the question of whether Florida lawmakers are pursuing a course that will hurt the state’s ability to meet public needs and in the process damage—rather than improve—its economic prospects.  A balanced approach that includes additional revenues would be a better investment in Florida’s future.
