Jim Tait is a lawyer who was formerly Governor Reubin Askew’s
economic advisor and chief of staff; Governor Bob Graham’s initial
Secretary of Administration, established the Florida Office of
Planning and Budget and was Governor Lawton Chiles’ Energy
Director. He also had extensive service in the Florida legislature
as director of the House Committee on Finance and Tax; the joint
Committee on Growth Management; and the Commission on Local
Government. Jim has also been recognized nationally for his
extensive state government experience.
Karen Woodall, Outreach & Education

Woodall has over twenty-five years of experience in supporting,
developing and advocating programs to improve the conditions of
working families, children, seniors, people with disabilities, rural
families, migrant and seasonal farm workers and other vulnerable
populations. She has strong ties to labor and social advocacy groups
throughout the state and has been noted as one of the few voices
speaking to the need for a broad and fair system of state taxes and
against the continued use of tax breaks for narrow corporate gains.
She was appointed by the Senate President to serve on the Services
Tax Commission in 1987 where she learned first hand of the
inequities of Florida’s tax structure. She is also a recognized
expert in the area of health care, especially for children.
Ruben Betancourt, Director of
Communications

Ruben
Betancourt
was
formerly the Director of Communications of the Florida
Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC), a 34-year-old
federally-supported independent advocacy agency; a Grants
Consultant of the Governor’s Working Group on the Americans
with Disabilities Act’s Real Choice Partnership; and a
Public Information Officer for the Department of Children
and Families’ region involving Broward, Miami-Dade and
Monroe Counties. He also founded and operated his own
public relations and marketing communications firm (Rocky
Top Marketing) while living in Sevierville, TN. Ruben is a
member of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce; the
TalTech Alliance, a
not-for-profit alliance of
businesses, academic centers, entrepreneurs and individuals
invested in promoting technology-based entrepreneurship,
business expansion and innovation in the Capital region; the
Council on Culture & Arts (COCA); and the
Florida Public Relations Association’s Capital Chapter. He
is natively bilingual in English and Spanish, the son of
immigrants from Cuba in 1961. He also brings great internet
communication skills and a working relationship with a large
number of state and local media, especially the business
press and State Capitol Press Corps.
